But how does that figure translate to the Czech market? Does the pandemic have any lingering effects (positive or negative) on e-commerce and online payments in general? We’re recapping the latest trends in this article.
Online checkouts vs cash on delivery: slow shift💵
European trends show an increased preference for credit and debit cards in online payments, and this is no different in the Czech Republic either. According to a survey conducted by Barion this November, 49.5% of respondents prefer online shopping using their credit cards. While this figure is encouraging, a significant amount of shoppers still prefers bank transaction (14.5%), and the second largest group picks the rather old-school cash-on-delivery method (19.8%).
The rise of digital wallets👛
While still only the fourth most popular payment method on the list, digital wallets have made a splash this year. Compared to 2021, the number of digital wallet users has doubled: last year, only 7% chose providers like Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Barion Wallet, while the latest survey shows that this figure rose to 12.3%, getting ever so closer to bank transfers in popularity. This shows that there’s still plenty of room for improvement: with the global figure closing in at 50%, the Czech Republic (just like most European countries) is somewhat behind the latest trends in the payment industry.
Willingness to pay: fluctuations both way🗠
Market tendencies show that the spread of digital payment methods and contactless payments boosts the overall trust of customers in these novelties. The pandemic clearly helped in this tendency: in 2021, a majority of European consumers felt comfortable with raising their contactless limit above €150 per transaction. This trend can be applied to online payments as well as Czech respondents paint a similar picture: in 2022, 30% of customers were willing to spend more than 5000 CZK (205 EUR) on a single purchase, while 2021 data shows a lower figure (22%).
Most respondents (55%) shop for between 1000-5000 CZK (40-205 EUR), which is pretty much the same data point from last year (53%). Somewhat contradicting the above findings, the number of users willing to spend 1000 CZK (40 EUR) or more on a single purchase has decreased by 10% (from 25% to 15%).
Slow shift according to global trends📈
All in all, the survey shows that, even though slowly, the Czech market is catching up to global trends. The quick spread of digital wallets and the shrinking cash on delivery payments show that the safest and most modern payment methods will eventually prevail – and just by comparing data from 2021, it’s clear that the change is inevitable.

What’s an IBAN number?🔢

Now that you’re familiar with the acronym, virtual IBAN doesn’t sound that mysterious either. Virtual IBAN numbers are issued by banks to allow the payments your business receives to be rerouted to a physical bank account.
For your business, each virtual IBAN account number you have linked to your master account allows you to accept payments in that given currency. So, you’ll have a dedicated virtual IBAN number for every currency you’re using.
So, a virtual IBAN number essentially transforms your e-money account into a payment account. This makes transfers and top-ups much easier and more familiar – especially when it comes to digital wallets like Barion Wallet.
Virtual IBAN and Barion Wallet👛
For long-time users of Barion Wallet, topping up digital wallets has been a rather error-prone process. You had to use a uniquely generated top-up code which then had to be copied in the notes field while making the transfer. This could result in mistakes during typing, which made the process even more time-consuming. With the introduction of virtual IBAN numbers, you merely need to copy-paste your virtual IBAN account number while making a money transfer for topping up your digital wallet – without having to copy any top-up codes.

About Barion and the Barion API💻
If you are here, it means that you’re looking for a payment gateway provider. Barion is one of these solutions: our services include debit and credit card payments, digital wallet (like Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Barion Wallet) transactions, and much more. Based on these types, there are two major scenarios that customers can use – responsive web payment, which works on desktops and mobile browsers as well, and mobile app payments, which customers can use it for checking out using their Barion mobile app.
Let’s see now every step in the payment process and where and how the Barion API comes into the picture:
Step 1: Customer checks out in a webshop.
Step 2: The merchant’s (or webshop’s) server kicks things off by calling the /Payment/Start API. Barion returns a payment ID in turn, and the shop records the transaction.
Step 3: The merchant’s website redirects the customer to the Barion payment gateway user interface. This can either be a responsive web interface or the Barion mobile app.
Step 4: The customer enters their data and completes the payment.
Step 5: The Barion server notifies the merchant about the status of the payment. Once the notification is received, the shop has to call the /Payment/GetPaymentState API to check if the payment went through.
Step 6: The merchant’s server records the transaction result.
Step 7: The user is redirected to the merchant’s return URL.
Cool, so how do I actually integrate the API?🔧
Assuming that you possess at least intermediate back-end dev skills, and have the tools and the knowledge to call a REST API, integrating the Barion API should be a walk in the park. We highly recommend having the following:
Tinker with our self-service sandbox mode. Sure, we understand you’d love to save time and jump to coding, but we highly suggest getting familiar with testing payments via the sandbox.
Some patience. Yes, integrating might take only a few hours, but working with payment APIs requires some discipline. So, don’t jump to coding, but read through our documentation beforehand.
The Barion API communicates via standard HTTP/1.1 GET or POST requests. Any of the Barion APIs accept only GET or POST requests, so there are no universal endpoints available. When you dig deeper in the trenches, you’ll find the path to each API endpoint and their respective HTTP methods.
As for the API itself, it sends and receives all content in JSON – so make sure that the following criteria are met when you create an API request:
1️⃣JSON strings are UTF-8 encoded
2️⃣The MIME type of the request sent to the API is defined as application/json
3️⃣Content length should be explicitly specified in all HTTP request headers
Safe and secure throughout🔒
PCI DSS is the acronym you want to see before integrating any payment gateway, and Barion delivers in that category as well. The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard is an information security standard for those orgs that handle branded credit cards. This allows us to handle cardholder data, making payments compliant and more convenient at the same time. The business you’re integrating Barion for doesn’t need to have PCI DSS as Barion takes care of that part.

Every provider has a slightly\r\n different approach to setting their fees, and to make things a bit trickier,\r\n most of the time it’s hard to determine at the first glance how your fee is\r\n built up. Or sometimes quite the opposite: you might see a price point that’s\r\n just too good to be true – and trust us, your hunch is right in cases like\r\n these.\r\n
\r\n\r\n We’ll see to the bottom of it all – so if you’re in the process of opening a\r\n webshop or just want to switch payment gateways, this article will give you\r\n all the context you need.\r\n
\r\nWhat parties are involved in the payment process?🤝
\r\n\r\n To understand what you’re paying to whom, let’s first see the various parties\r\n that charge every transaction for every single payment made on your webshop.\r\n
\r\n\r\n The issuing bank: This is the bank of the cardholder’s owner.\r\n The amount paid to them is also known as the interchange fee. This is\r\n typically between 0.2-0.3% depending on whether it’s a credit or a debit card.\r\n
\r\n\r\n The card scheme: The scheme provider (usually Mastercard and\r\n Visa) gets a small fee for each payment. This ranges between 0.1-0.4%.\r\n
\r\n\r\n The acquirer: This is the organization that authorizes\r\n payments – they receive a fee for each transaction. This is also what includes\r\n the payment provider markup.\r\n
\r\n\r\n These three combined are also called Interchange++ (or IC++), in which IC\r\n stands for the issuing bank, the first + stands for the scheme fee, and the\r\n second + stands for the acquirer’s fee. We can also call it the merchant fee\r\n as this, in an ideal world, shows exactly what percentage you need to pay for\r\n each transaction (usually between 0.5-5%).\r\n
\r\nWhat’s the catch with merchant fees?💸
\r\n\r\n As you can see, merchant fees are pretty complex, and as such, it’s easy to\r\n sell merchants a payment gateway through an idealized example that only\r\n pertains to one part of the entire fee. So, if we take the best scenario (a\r\n domestic private debit card), your fee might be well below 1%. That’s great,\r\n but what happens if someone shops with a credit card? Or uses a company card?\r\n What if your customer has a foreign card? Your merchant fee will suddenly be\r\n much higher than what you were sold at first, and if the majority of your\r\n audience doesn’t fall into the ideal scenario, you’ll find yourself paying\r\n much more for the gateway provider you thought you would.\r\n
\r\n\r\n The writing is on the wall: always read the fine print and understand your\r\n audience and their buying habits. Get in touch with providers and ask for a\r\n quote that’s tailor-made for your business, and actively look for transparent\r\n providers that provide every little detail on their pricing page. If you know\r\n what type of cards are used for your transactions, it’s much easier to see\r\n through various payment gateways and their merchant fees. There’s another\r\n catch, however…\r\n
\r\nHow are payment providers hiding their fees?🔍
\r\n\r\n One way is to simply misunderstand what these percentages mean. When you see\r\n that a gateway provider is asking for say, a merchant fee of 2%, it almost\r\n feels negligible. You keep 98% of the payment, right? Well, things get a bit\r\n more nuanced once you check your average cart size. Let’s say your webshop’s\r\n average visitor spends 120 euros on their cart. The merchant fee for each\r\n transaction is 2.4 euros (2% of the 120€) – not too shabby, right?\r\n
\r\n\r\n Now let’s see a provider that charges you less than half, say, 0.75%. The\r\n merchant fee you pay in the same scenario will be 0.9 euros. The difference is\r\n minuscule. Assuming that your fictional webshop generates 120,000 euros of\r\n income each month, in scenario A, you’re paying 240 euros to the provider,\r\n while in scenario B, it’s 90 euros. 150 euros is a measurable difference\r\n already, but tricky fees don’t stop here.\r\n
\r\n\r\n Another way of getting a higher merchant fee is by charging you a monthly fee\r\n on top of the percentage. This is typically for webshops with a smaller volume\r\n – still, the flat fee means that you need to pay the price even if the\r\n business isn’t booming. If your webshop specializes in seasonal offers (like\r\n Christmas), this is a particularly disadvantageous setup.\r\n
\r\n\r\n On top of everything, providers can still add a flat fee for each transaction.\r\n For instance, you could pay 0.25 euros for each transaction made, which, again\r\n doesn’t feel much, but let’s put it into context! If your payment gateway\r\n provider charges you a monthly fee, a flat transaction fee, plus a set % for\r\n each payment, you’ll be paying much more than what the first numbers\r\n suggested.\r\n
\r\n\r\n Sticking to a similar scenario from earlier, imagine that in case A you pay a\r\n 10-euro monthly fee, a 0.75% merchant fee plus 0.25 euros per transaction.\r\n With a 120-euro average cart value and 120,000-euro monthly income, it’ll cost\r\n 350 euros for your business. In scenario B, you have a flat merchant fee of\r\n 0.75%, so your cost will stay the same (90€):\r\n
\r\n\r\n
\r\n The difference is glaring (almost 4X price difference), yet both providers in\r\n our fictional scenarios will roll with the same figure on their website (0.75%\r\n merchant fee).\r\n

A payment gateway is the crucial link between your webshop and your customers while processing any payment. It securely validates your customers’ payment details (more on this later) and allows you to get paid the amount displayed on your website.
With plenty of “invisible” steps in the process of accepting payments, a payment gateway serves as the link between your business and your customers.
Why need a payment gateway at all? 🤷
There are several reasons why webshop owners need to integrate a payment gateway to start accepting payments. If you picture online payments as physical ones, you’ll quickly see the problem. When you are physically there in a shop to authorize any payment, you sheer presence does the trick, and there’s no need for additional authorization. The same cannot be said about online payments, though.
When your customer checks out on your webshop, there’s no telling that, just by entering any credit card data, that person is actually authorized to initiate the transaction. Payment gateways are also gatekeepers of your customers’ payment data. They serve as a middleman, but they also add a security net for every payment. In short, you need a payment gateway because of the following reasons:
Authorizes payments. Your webshop by its own is not allowed to authorize any kind of payment made by credit or debit cards or any other payment methods like bank transfers or digital wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay, Barion Wallet) transactions.

With several gateway providers out there, Barion Smart Gateway offers a payment gateway that’s unique in its own right. Merchant fees (this is what you pay per transaction) start from 1.5% and can be as little as 0.5%. Integrating Barion Smart Gateway is a smooth process as well. If you’re using a popular e-commerce platform like Shopify or WooCommerce, you can simply use a pre-made plugin for that – or if you’re thinking about a custom integration, your developer will love it to bits.
Barion Smart Gateway is known for its low-effort integration: even if you go with the custom option, you can set everything up and hit the ground running in mere days.
As of today, Smart Gateway supports offsite gateway integration: this means that your customers will be directed to a secure page for entering payment data, and then redirected to your webshop once the payment goes through.
Hit the ground running by opening your Barion Wallet 👛
To have a functioning Barion Smart Gateway integration, you’ll need to open a shop in your Barion Wallet, and tick a number of prerequisites before getting it approved. These might feel like a hassle, but if you run a business that checks all the boxes by default, meeting Barion’s requirements won’t be that laborious. Here are a few highlighted items:
Make sure you open a Business account.:This will let you open one or more shops and start accepting payments. Personal accounts do not come with these functions usually.
Currency: You need to select one currency (EUR, USD, HUF, or CZK) for your Barion Wallet. Once you register, you can add additional currencies as well.
Shop category: Certain categories don’t make the cut at Barion (adult content, gambling, crypto etc.), while others require an extra round of authorization. If you sell alcoholic beverages, dietary supplements, drugs, or prescription medicine, be prepared to present any authorization document you have.
Expected income and average cart size: Providing these figures will determine which category you fall into according to our Merchant Risk Control Policy. This will affect how we verify you and your business once submitting your registration form, and will also influence your

Open a shop 🛒
Now that you have your Barion Wallet, it’s time to create your first shop. Apart from the self-explanatory fields, there are a few things you should pay extra attention to:
Give accurate information. For fields like expected income, average basket value, or percentage of non-EU cards, it’s wise to give a realistic figure as it influences your merchant fee. Complete the To-do list. You’ll need to complete a few extra steps to be able to check these boxes. Be sure to only check them if you’re actually done with them as these are mandatory items.
Save as a draft. You don’t need to provide every little detail at once. If you need some time for things like placing the Barion logo on your website, just save your shop form as a draft and go back to editing whenever ready.
About your Barion Pixel integration👾
Barion Pixel comes with a few extra perks that help your webshop grow. You can go with Base Barion Pixel or Full Barion Pixel along with your Barion Smart Gateway integration – here are the key differences:
Base Barion Pixel
Implementing this code snippet gets you fraud detection for your webshop. Your customers can shop and check out while you can rest assured that every single transaction is monitored closely, and fraudulent activities are immediately rejected and reported.
Full Barion Pixel
This code opens a whole world of possibilities. By logging e-commerce events (like adding or removing items to and from a basket, etc.), Pixel does not only give you more sophisticated fraud detection but also comes with two extra perks. First, it unlocks Barion Metrics. This advanced analytics tool gives you a detailed view of your customers’ behavior, helping you understand your sales funnel and improve your sales and marketing efforts altogether.
Second, if you implement Full Barion Pixel, you may become eligible for a merchant fee as low as 0.50%. Other factors also influence this percentage, so make sure you get in touch with us to calculate your exact merchant fee upon implementing Full Barion Pixel.

How’s the approval process happening? ✅
Depending on your business profile, there are two ways we can approve your shop registration. At face value, everyone needs to complete step number one:
Topping up your Barion Wallet: You’ve just submitted your registration form, but your freshly opened Wallet doesn’t yet store a dime in it – so you need to upload any amount to it. Use a wire transfer registered to your company’s name, and include your top-up code in the notes section, and you should be good to go. We use this step as a simplified verification of your business. Just look for the top-up submenu, select wire transfer, and then the following prompt will show your code:

Normally, topping up your Wallet does the trick, but in certain cases, there’s an extra step:
KYC: Aka Know Your Customer. This is a crucial step to filter out money laundering and financial crime-related activities. If we deem it necessary, we’ll reach out to you and notify you that a video call is necessary to get the approval. You don’t need to book an appointment: just sign in for video verification on any workday between 10-12 in the morning. Our agents are available and will get to you in a minimal waiting time.
If you’re verified via the simplified method (topping up your Barion Wallet), you’ll see that your Barion Wallet will be limited to a certain amount. We can remove these via KYC as well – the simplified method is there so that you can get approved faster, but to get the most out of your Barion Smart Gateway integration, video verification is highly recommended from the get-go. As for limits in particular, we’ll detail all there is to know about them in an upcoming post.
Time to go live 🚀
If you've got through steps 1 to 4, you’ll shortly receive a confirmation email from us. But apart from that, you’re pretty much good to go at this point! With your approved shop, customers can start paying via Barion Smart Gateway. And how long does the approval process last? While it does require a few manual checks, most of our merchants’ shops get approved within 1-2 working days.

On top of these, there’s the matter of security: even if a phone (or whichever device stores credit card details) is lost or stolen, said credit card details cannot be accessed as they are not stored in the app itself. This brings us to our next question:
How do digital wallets work? ⚙️
A digital wallet – and the card details stored in it – uses software to wire payment details from your bank account connected to the given card to your online store. It uses a method called tokenization: your customer enters their credit card details in the digital wallet’s app, which translates sensitive data (in this case, card details) to non-sensitive data (this is called a “token”). Thanks to this method, whenever this customer checks out in your webshop, by choosing their preferred digital wallet, they can initiate the payment with a single click or tap.
What type of digital wallets are there?📱
There are three types of digital wallets, and their different features are clean-cut.
Closed wallet: These wallets are issued by a company, usually an e-commerce store, and while the customer can top up their wallets, they can only spend their funds within the closed ecosystem of the issuing company. One such example would be Amazon Pay.
Semi-closed wallet: These wallets allow customers to pay online or offline only at certain merchants. You as a business owner first need to enter an agreement with the wallet issuer. Semi-closed wallets also come with a limited coverage area, so businesses with cross-country audiences will not see many benefits of adopting such payment methods.
Open wallet: These wallets are issued by banks through banks or companies. This type of wallet is the most widespread, and most of the well-known providers' issue open wallets.
Which digital wallets are most widely used? 🔝
There are plenty of options out there, with most providers either exclusively issuing digital wallets, or having them as part of their wider product range. The most prominent ones are as follows:
Google Pay: In 2019, Google Pay logged a transactional value of 110 billion USD.
Apple Pay: Not counting China, Apple Pay has the largest transaction volume globally.
AliPay: Processing over a whopping 17 trillion USD, they are the largest mobile payments platform in the world, mostly available in China but not in Europe.
PayPal: A long-time player in the industry, PayPal has over 400 million active user accounts.

There are several other major players, but most of them either don’t have a foothold in Europe (like Venmo) or focus on a specific market (like WeChat).

According to the Global Payments Report, almost half (48.6%) of e-commerce transactions (value-wise) were done via digital wallets in 2021. Credit cards come in at second place – with 21%. The jury is still out as to how it changes by 2025, but the earlier figure is expected to grow to 52.5%. But it's not only market trends we can point to as a reason for adopting digital wallets.
According to Big Commerce, digital wallets can triple your conversion rate. There's no big secret here: your customers often find themselves in comfy situations when pulling out a credit card and entering all its details is a hassle. Who wouldn't want a single gesture to authorize payment in cases like this? Naturally, digital wallets decrease the number of abandoned carts, thus boosting your conversion.
At this point, having digital wallets as a payment option on your website is no longer just nice to have. On the contrary, it’s a lifeline to your business as customers rapidly ditch other online payment methods in favor of their favorite digital wallets.

Chcete-li začít, musíte nejprve na web nasadit Base Barion Pixel. Ten je povinný pro každého obchodníka, který si zřizuje e-shop a přijímá platby přes platební bránu Barion Smart Gateway.
1️⃣ Nejprve vyhledejte své Barion Pixel ID. Toto je 12místný kód (BP-xxxxxxxxxx-00), který najdete v podnabídce Akce/Podrobnosti. Zkopírujte tento kód.
2️⃣ Dále vložte své jedinečné Pixel ID do ukázkového kódu, který najdete zde.

One dashboard above all
The first thing recurring guests of Barion Metrics will notice that we completely overhauled the dashboard. Next to visitor, user, and purchase count, we added total revenue plus visitor device types above the fold. This snap overview is followed by a graph that tracks unique visitor count against session count. Your dashboard is then wrapped up with a list of the most frequently searched terms within your webshop. But that’s not all – the best thing about the reimagined start screen is that you can now set any custom interval.
“One of the biggest pains our merchants had was not being able to set custom dates”, explains Daniel Zsoldos, the product owner and head of data behind the launch. “Now a user can select either a preset interval or customize it entirely by picking the start and end dates.”
Improved sales funnel and product insights
By recording and analyzing every single e-commerce event on a given website, Metrics is now capable of breaking down your sales funnel step-by-step. So, all the way from visitor count to conversion rate, you’ll get a tidy graph that illustrates how your sales funnel shapes up.
“We want our users to have a helicopter view of their product range and its performance. That’s why Barion Metrics displays the most popular categories and products, as well as the items placed to or removed from the basket most frequently” says Zsoldos. “The point is, with better insight about your own products, you can make better decisions. If you see that a product doesn’t perform well, you might want to promote it via a campaign or remove it from the range. You call the shots, we give you the data.”
Getting started with Metrics
Accessing Metrics is probably the only thing that hasn’t changed with the release of the new version. As a merchant, once you registered your shop, all you need is integrating Full Baron Pixel. This tiny code snippet will start collecting data from your webshop, and through Barion Metrics, you’ll see all the invaluable insights at hand. With Barion Metrics comes another perk: merchants integrating Full Barion Pixel also enjoy a merchant fee of 0.99% or even less.
“While Base Barion Pixel is mandatory, it only gives fraud protection for your webshop. By integrating Full Barion Pixel, you kill two birds with one stone. A tiny javascript code gets you lower merchant fees and full access to the freshly released Barion Metrics” adds Zsoldos.

Obviously, you want to ensure that your data, money, and transactions are conducted in a secure, encrypted manner – and that is also in our best interest. After all, if we at Barion cannot guarantee that security, why would you entrust your money to us?
The importance of PCI DSS
For that reason, our products comply with the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard (DSS), to ensure that your transaction and bank card data are as secure as possible. To comply with the expectations and regulations of the various card issuers (Mastercard, Visa, Amex, and so on), we need to take a very close look at the cipher suites we use when you connect via HTTPS to our APIs or our secure site – and of course, this applies to both inbound and outbound traffic (that is, also when we are sending data to you). The cipher suites encrypt the data during the whole information exchange process, with the decryption happening both at your end and at ours. This way, those extremely important digits that give access to your bank account are protected during the whole duration of the transaction, ensuring that no outsider can gain access to the encrypted information flow.
While these standards, encryption/decryption methods, and relevant identification protocols may seem a hassle on the surface, we want to follow and implement them, and not only because these are required by the card industry. If we would not do so, well, paying through Barion just might result in a very happy scammer/phisher messaging you that all your banking data are belong to them. And we imagine that you would like that even less than we do.
Our solution
To avoid such problems, we are updating both our incoming and our outgoing Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption starting June 1, 2023, in a twofold way. First, we are routing most of our outbound and inbound traffic (already around 98% of our total) to use TLS 1.3. Second, we are ensuring that our TLS 1.2 connections use the accepted, trusted cipher suites, while the TLS 1.2 cipher suites that are deemed weak, will be discarded.
This ensures the cipher suites we are using conform to the latest industry recommendations, in both directions of the communication. Also, if we did not ensure that our side also complies with these industry regulations, all Barion transactions would flat-out vanish into the digital void.
Our TLS 1.2 ciphers
From June 1, 2023, onwards, our Cloudflare-protected endpoint checks for and employs the following encryption suites when sending or receiving communication using TLS 1.2:

Step 1: Open your Barion Wallet 👛
\n\n Your very first step is to create a\n
\n Make sure you open a Business account. This will let you open\n one or more shops and start accepting payments. Personal accounts do not come\n with these functions usually.\n
\n\n Pick a currency. You need to select one currency (EUR, USD,\n HUF, or CZK) for your Barion Wallet. Once you register, you can add additional\n currencies as well.\n
\n\n Have your company details at hand. This might feel like a\n hassle, but once you provide all the necessary info, getting your shop\n approved will take much faster.\n
\n\n Add your representative’s info. This is important for\n verifying your account later, so make sure all the details are accurate.\n
\nStep 2: Open a shop 🛒
\n\n
\n Now that you have your Barion Wallet, it’s time to create your first shop.\n Apart from the self-explanatory fields, there are a few things you should pay\n extra attention to:\n
\n\n Give accurate information. For fields like expected income,\n average basket value, or percentage of non-EU cards, it’s wise to give a\n realistic figure as it influences your merchant fee. Our\n
\n Complete the To-do list. You’ll need to complete a few extra\n steps to be able to check these boxes. Be sure to only check them if you’re\n actually done with them as these are mandatory items.\n
\n\n Save as a draft. You don’t need to provide every little\n detail at once. If you need some time for things like placing the Barion logo\n on your website, just save your shop form as a draft and go back to editing\n whenever ready.\n
\nStep 3: Get approved ✅
\n\n Once you submit your shop registration form, we need to check every little\n detail manually. This is when we run risk and compliance rounds to make sure\n you can become a Barion merchant. On top of that, one of the following will\n apply to you to get the final approval:\n
\n\n Simplified verification: This method only needs you to top up\n your Barion Wallet with a small amount of money using your bank account by\n
\n Enhanced verification: This method entails a video\n verification of your identity. This is not a mandatory step: it’s only\n necessary if you’d like to kill off the limits on your Barion Wallet. Read\n more on this due diligence process and limits in general\n
Step 4: Nerds, this one is for you 💻

\n We’ll cover all the different types of Barion Smart Gateway integration in an\n upcoming article, but until then, we need to drop a few lines for Barion\n integrators as well. To set up shop with us, there are three mandatory and one\n highly recommend step that you should do:\n

Step 5: Go live 🚀

But apart from that, you’re pretty much good to go at this point!\n With your approved shop, customers can start paying via Barion Smart Gateway.\n And how long does the approval process last? While it does require a few\n manual checks, most of our merchants’ shops get approved within 1-2 working\n days.\n
